Pearl is a Layer-1 blockchain that uses proof of useful work: mining is done through GPU matrix multiplication, the core operation of AI workloads. PRL is its native coin.
Miners run GPUs that perform matrix multiplications, for example while serving AI inference with Pearl's vLLM-based miner. When their work finds a valid block they receive the block subsidy plus transaction fees. CPUs are not practical for mining.
PRL has a hard cap of 2.1 billion coins. Issuance declines a little with every block rather than halving, and about half of the supply is scheduled to be mined within the first four years.
The Pearl mainnet went live on 27 April 2026, when Pearl Research Labs made the node software public.
Pearl targets a block time of about 194 seconds, and mining difficulty adjusts every block to hold that target.
